EREHWON ENSEMBLE
KINGSTON'S CHAMBER ORCHESTRA
David Rudge, Music Director and Conductor

Kingston's first professional orchestra, Erehwon Ensemble brings together 21 of the region’s finest musicians who are all deeply invested in the group and our mission: to create powerful, passionate, and transformative musical experiences that connect deeply with audiences of all ages and backgrounds.
The idea for the Erehwon Ensemble was born under a clear blue sky on the shore of one of the Great Lakes one summer afternoon in 2023. Founders David Rudge and Essena Setaro, both musicians, long-time friends, and collaborators, were simply catching up when they discovered something remarkable: they had both been dreaming of creating a chamber orchestra that could bring their shared love of music, collaboration, and innovation to life. This conversation quickly turned into an action plan, and in the months that followed, the Erehwon Ensemble was officially formed as a 501c3 nonprofit. Sky blue remains our signature color, a subtle reminder of the group’s genesis and symbolizing our openness to possibilities.
Internationally renowned conductor David Rudge leads the orchestra and also serves as Music Director while co-founder Essena Setaro performs with the group as a violinist and directs all the logistics of bringing our unique vision to reality. We strive to push the boundaries of what a chamber orchestra can be with dynamic concerts that juxtapose rarely heard classical masterpieces with fresh approaches to familiar works and diverse compositions inspired by jazz, blues, and a variety of musical styles from around the world.
Our thoughtfully curated programs encompass everything from the music of the Early Baroque to the diverse voices of living composers, from the heart pumping vitality of Argentinian tango to the toe-tapping energy of American fiddle music, from well-known works by Vivaldi, Mozart and Tchaikovsky to spontaneous improvisation and audience involvement. Expect the unexpected!
Our team of excellent musicians, all fully paid professionals, is actively committed to accessibility and inclusivity. From our musical selections to special ticket discounts and community outreach at assisted living facilities, public libraries, and schools throughout the city, we engage people of all abilities, backgrounds, and ages in powerful musical experiences. But what makes the Erehwon Ensemble truly special is the intense spirit of collaboration between our musicians, conductor, and audiences. Every performance is shaped by energy and passion each person brings to the space. We’re not just playing music, we’re sharing stories, creating community, and celebrating the rich diversity of this powerful art form. With our paradigm-breaking vision for a more inclusive and adventurous musical future, Erehwon Ensemble is quickly emerging as a unique and vital voice.
